Manchester City have become just the third side in Barclays Women’s Super League history to score 500 goals.
The Blues achieved the feat in our 207th WSL match, which ended in a 4-3 defeat to Arsenal at the Joie Stadium.
The Gunners and WSL champions Chelsea are the other two sides to hit 500 goals in the WSL, with all three teams sharing remarkably similar records.
Arsenal took the shortest amount of time to reach the milestone, doing so in 200 matches compared to City’s 207 and Chelsea’s 209.
The Blues have kept 97 clean sheets and conceded just 173 times en route to 500, with the Gunners shipping 169 goals while securing 99 shutouts.
Chelsea, meanwhile, conceded 189 goals and kept 96 clean sheets in the same timeframe.
In total, 51 different City players have contributed to that tally, with Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw adding the most with 59 WSL strikes.
Lauren Hemp’s 43 contributions is the next most, with other major additions from Georgia Stanway (39) and Nikita Parris (37).
Interestingly, City’s first WSL goal was also scored against Arsenal, with Toni Duggan firing home to earn our maiden league victory in May 2014.
Mary Fowler grabbed our 500th when firing home from the spot against the Gunners, with the Australian also finding the net for our 800th goal in all competitions against their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in March 2024.
An impressive 266 of those 500 goals have come during Gareth Taylor’s 101 WSL matches in charge of City, with the remaining 234 under Nick Cushing’s reign.
Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to yet another fantastic milestone!
