Club legend could return to Barcelona in a coaching capacity this summer | OneFootball

Sergio Busquets could be preparing for a return to FC Barcelona, with the legendary former midfielder interested in taking his first steps towards a coaching career at the club where he made his name.

According to SPORT, Busquets made a surprise visit to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper this week. While it could easily have been viewed as a routine visit from a former captain, there was reportedly a more significant reason behind his appearance.

The report says Busquets has already held conversations with Barcelona about becoming involved in the day-to-day environment of Barca Atletic, currently coached by Juliano Belletti.

Busquets does not yet have the necessary qualifications to become a head coach, so the immediate plan would focus on learning. He could observe and participate in the daily work of Belletti’s coaching staff, gaining practical experience before eventually taking on greater responsibility of his own.

Barcelona are delighted by the possibility of welcoming Busquets back in such a capacity.

Few former players would appear better suited to beginning a coaching journey at La Masia. Busquets was never a footballer who depended on spectacular physical qualities. His career was built around intelligence, positioning and an extraordinary understanding of space, qualities that could translate naturally into coaching.

A potentially valuable addition for La Masia

Having someone with Busquets’ experience around Barca Atletic could also be particularly useful for the club’s young players.

He understands exactly what is required to make the transition from the academy to Barcelona’s first team, having travelled that path himself before becoming one of the defining midfielders of his generation.

There is obviously a significant difference between understanding football and becoming a successful coach, and Busquets would seemingly be approaching that challenge in the right way. Rather than immediately pursuing a major position because of his reputation, the idea would be to learn from within and build experience.

Nothing appears to be formally confirmed at this stage, but the possibility of Busquets returning to Barcelona is certainly intriguing.
