At Real Madrid, the Club World Cup has become a top priority. Florentino Pérez, president of Los Blancos, is piling the pressure on Xabi Alonso and his squad to go all the way.
To motivate clubs to give their all despite an already packed season, FIFA decided to up the ante with massive cash prizes, both for participating teams and for the eventual winner, who will walk away with €115 million on top of what they've earned up to the final—almost another €100 million. These staggering amounts have caught the eye of Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.
According to AS, this Club World Cup has now become an obsession for Madrid's leadership, who believe that lifting the trophy is now essential and strategic for the club's future. The club has even set aside an individual bonus of €1 million for each player if they win the title—the largest bonus ever promised by Real Madrid in its history.
As further proof of his obsession with this Club World Cup, Florentino Pérez is cranking up the pressure on Xabi Alonso. Still according to AS, Xabi Alonso is the one who benefits least from this tournament, as he doesn't get the chance to properly test or plan his pre-season. Nevertheless, the former Bayer Leverkusen boss understands his president's demands and knows that to have the world's top players in his squad, the club needs to bring in serious revenue.
