The AC Milan Futuro project was earmarked as a way to propel youth players into the first team, using the club as its own step. However, this has not occurred.
In the past 12 months, the Futuro idea has seen a real rise and fall. From its inception to now, the moods around the project could not be further apart, and unfortunately, the senior team cannot shield things.
This afternoon, Calciomercato.com have reported that the project is a failure and an ‘economic disaster’ as things stand, and this needs to change very quickly.
Sitting 19th and struggling, the Futuro is surrounded by harsh reviews, but this will not change unless there is a change in results, both on the pitch and in talent, because unfortunately, the project has failed to show signs of its objective.
Francesco Camarda, who has regularly been involved in the senior team this season, has not been enough to spearhead the team. Unfortunately, the talent around him, when given the chance, has shown themselves to be better in Serie A, than Serie C, which again raises questions about the usefulness of the project.
After all, if they struggle at Serie C level, but can compete in Serie A, the issue is not with talent, but their location.
Then, we look to the economic situation. Barring a few signings, the recruitment in the team has been poor so far and the €12 million invested so far looks to be a waste, especially so if relegation to Serie D occurs, which is a very tangible possibility as things stand.
Improvement is needed, and the Futuro needs to prove it, and they have a future.
