Murat Yakin named his Switzerland squad on Thursday morning for March friendlies against Germany and Norway, with Valencia’s Cömert and Ugrinic included after starting on the preliminary list.
Both had been awaiting the call and return after a long absence. According to Superdeporte, their 2026 form has drawn Yakin’s attention as he looks to test options with limited personnel.
Ugrinic last featured in November 2024, a 3-2 defeat to Spain in the final Nations League A group match. Cömert also played that night, then completed 90 minutes in a 3-1 friendly win over Luxembourg at the end of March, operating on the left of a back three.
Cömert has 18 caps since his November 2019 debut in a 6-1 win against Gibraltar. The defender has been the more regular pick than the attacking midfielder. Ugrinic made his debut in 2023 in the closing minutes of a 1-1 draw with Kosovo, and in his fourth cap played the first half as a right-sided midfielder.
Both are set to join up with Switzerland on Monday after Valencia visit Sevilla at the Pizjuán on Saturday at 21:00. Valencia’s next LaLiga match is on 5 April, when Celta go to Mestalla.
Switzerland face Germany in Basel on 27 March at 20:45. The second friendly, away to Norway, is on Tuesday 31 March at 18:00.
