Colombia and DR Congo face off at Guadalajara Stadium on Wednesday following strong performances in their opening matches of the tournament.
The South American side is in excellent form, having carried their momentum smoothly into the competition. They began their World Cup Group K journey with an impressive 3-1 win over Uzbekistan, which placed them at the top of the standings.
In the lead-up to the tournament, Colombia recorded back-to-back friendly victories, beating Jordan 2-0 and Costa Rica 3-1 in June. Their only recent defeats came earlier in March, when they narrowly lost to European heavyweights Croatia and France in friendly matches.
Colombia heads into this game with a fully fit 26-man squad. Head coach Nestor Lorenzo has no injury concerns or suspensions ahead of the midweek clash.
He is expected to stick with the same lineup that delivered the win against Uzbekistan.
The team is likely to line up in a well-structured 4-3-3 system. Luis Diaz will spearhead the attack from the left wing, while experienced midfielder James Rodriguez will orchestrate play from the center. Luis Suarez is set to lead the line as the central striker.
This attacking trio will aim to break down DR Congo’s disciplined defense. Behind them, Jefferson Lerma and Richard Rios will play key roles in controlling possession and maintaining balance in midfield.
Fullbacks Daniel Munoz and Johan Mojica will provide attacking width down the flanks. Lorenzo’s tactical approach focuses on dominating possession while remaining cautious of quick counter-attacks.
Possible Colombia starting XI: Vargas; Munoz, Sanchez, Lucumi, Mojica; Rios, Lerma; Arias, Rodriguez, Diaz; Suarez
The match will kick off at 3am BST on Wednesday, 24th June.
The fixture will be broadcast live in the UK and will be available free-to-air on ITV1 and STV.
