What a comeback! FC Bayern celebrated a thrilling home win in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. Jose Barcala’s team defeated reigning champions FC Arsenal 3-2 after trailing 2-0 – in front of almost 15,000 enthusiastic spectators in the Allianz Arena.
This was the Munich side’s seventh win in a row and consolidated their strong form this season. With six points from three games, the Bayern women are now seventh in the league and have their sights firmly set on the quarter-finals.

The evening started anything but promisingly, with Emily Fox heading the English side into the lead in the 5th minute. After a momentous misplaced pass from Stine Ballisager, Mariona increased the lead to 2:0 for Arsenal with a superb long-range shot in the 23rd minute.
The Bayern women struggled to create any danger in front of goal until the break, with the visitors controlling proceedings and the Munich side lacking penetration in attack.

The game turned completely around after the break, with the German champions noticeably stepping up the pace and Alara scoring a deserved goal in the 67th minute. The goal spurred the team on – from then on it was just Bayern playing.
Pernille Harder, who was particularly motivated against her former club, scored a dream goal from 16 metres out in the 80th minute to level the score at 2:2. The Allianz Arena shook – but that was not the end.
Just seven minutes later, Glódís Perla Viggosdottir made it 3-2 after a precise cross from Klara Bühl and completed the comeback.
The Munich team defended passionately in the final minutes and did not let anything else get in the way. The jubilation after the final whistle was huge – and the victory a real statement.
