Inter Milan set a new goalscoring record in Serie A last night, overtaking Juventus as the most prolific side in the competition’s history.
According to FCInterNews, yesterday’s phenomenal 4-3 win at Como took Inter’s overall tally in Italy’s top flight to 5,465 goals.
Despite trailing Cesc Fabregas’ side by two goals after 45 minutes, Inter pulled off an epic comeback at the Sinigaglia Stadium.
Indeed, Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries both scored two goals apiece to inspire the Nerazzurri to a much-needed victory.
In doing so, they’ve helped the San Siro giants set a new record in Serie A.
Sunday’s clash at the Sinigaglia marked Inter’s 3,188th game in Serie A. That’s how many matches it took them to score 5,465 goals.
Despite playing 39 matches fewer, record-time Italian champions Juventus (3,149) have bagged 5,464 goals in league action.
Indeed, their last Serie A strike came in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Atalanta, with Jeremie Boga scoring against his former club.
However, it’s worth noting that Juventus’ notorious relegation to Serie B in 2006/07 weighs heavily on their overall tally.
Meanwhile, AC Milan rank third on the all-time list, with 5,132 goals from 3,127 outings.
