‘Completely lost in what he’s trying to do’ – Redknapp and Carragher’s scathing criticism of Spurs and Postecoglou | OneFootball

Jamie Redknapp launched a scathing criticism of Ange Postecoglou after Spurs’ 4-0 thrashing at Liverpool.

Goals from Cody Gakpo, Mo Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk saw Liverpool overturn a one-goal deficit from the first leg and sail through to the final to face Newcastle.

And former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder Redknapp gave a brutal assessment of the performance to Sky Sports.

“I cannot remember a team in my lifetime go down with less of a fight than what they did today,” he said.

“Not having one shot on target in a semi-final second leg when you’re trying to change the course of your history.

“I feel sorry for those young players. I think Djed Spence played 14 different positions tonight. I’ve never seen anything like it. The young players, you’re meant to protect them.

“I just felt in the first half, they were trying to play out from the back and the goalkeeper is edgy, the midfield never showed any courage to get on the ball and make things happen.

“They were so abject and it wasn’t the inexperienced players, it was the experienced players I was looking at going ‘go on, lead the team’. Son is the captain, show something. Show some character and get on the ball. Kulusevski, nothing.

“Van de Ven is obviously a big miss but there’s still enough players there to cause some Liverpool some problems.

“Everyone seems to find a way of beating this Tottenham side. I think the manager right now, he baffles me with his tactics sometimes.

“I think he’s completely lost in what he’s trying to do. You have to adapt, you have to change. If you haven’t got the personnel that you want, then you have to make sure that your tactics are different.

“Tottenham showed them miles too much respect.”

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher also gave his thoughts on Tottenham and singled out the midfield a “disgrace”.

He said: “It was never in doubt before the game – it was Tottenham. When will Tottenham ever win a big game?

“When I look at those three Tottenham midfield players, I thought they were a disgrace.

“No matter who the manager is, you’re playing in a semi-final.

“Get after them, be aggressive. Maybe forget the ball for the first half an hour. Be aggressive. Even if you’re camped in your own half.

“It looked like a team that was picked before the game to try and make it difficult for Liverpool, powerful players, no number tens, just three proper central midfield players.

“Yes they lost the ball for the first goal but I thought that was a team to try and stop Liverpool and nullify Liverpool. That’s what most teams would probably do coming to Anfield with a one-goal lead. But those midfield players, they didn’t even put a challenge in.”
