Kylian Mbappe’s injury earlier this week has come as a major blow for Real Madrid. The 27-year-old forward, who has scored 29 goals this season, is ruled out of the game against Real Betis and appears unlikely to be ready for the Spanish Super Cup.
The French international’s problem adds to a long list of physical issues that have hit the team particularly hard throughout the season.
Given the situation, AS reports that the number of injuries suffered by players have raised alarms at Real Madrid.
The debate, following Mbappe’s injury, is not about how long he will be sidelined, but about identifying why physical problems have multiplied for Xabi Alonso’s team.
Seeing Mbappe’s name on the injury list, after he was unable to play against Manchester City, raises concern and sets off alarm bells. In this case, however, it has more to do with the sheer number of injuries than with the specific issue affecting his left knee.
Something has been going wrong physically in recent months, and the aim is to find a solution to the recurring problem. Physical conditioning, recovery, medical checks, readjustment and the return to group training all play a role.

In total, there have been 23 injuries, not counting setbacks such as Mbappe’s. This figure has raised alarm at the start of the year, which had been approached with confidence that Alonso’s starting XI could improve on their performances from the first half of the season.
Such a level of absence is not considered even remotely normal, and the club are seeking the source of the problem and a possible solution, with the issue pointing mainly towards physical preparation.
It should not be forgotten that participation in the FIFA Club World Cup extended last season and shortened preparation for the current campaign.
Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, European teams that also took part in the tournament and progressed beyond the group stage, are posting injury numbers similar to Real Madrid’s, especially in terms of muscular issues.
The priority at Valdebebas, following the confirmation that the problem Mbappe has been carrying since the match against Celta Vigo has returned and caused another competitive setback, is prevention.
The aim is to find a training and recovery plan that works together and prevents the number of injuries from continuing to rise.
