Confirmed: Barcelona tie down promising La Masia defender with new contract until 2029 | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have secured the future of one of La Masia’s most promising defenders, with Álex Campos signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.

The agreement between the two parties also includes an option for the Blaugrana to extend the deal by a further year, taking it through to 2030.

“FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Alex Campos to extend his contract, which will keep him at the Club until June 30, 2029. The agreement also includes the option to extend the contract for another year,” the club statement read.

“At the signing ceremony, held at the Joan Gamper Sports City, the player was accompanied by the Director of Youth Football, Jose Ramon Alexanco.”

Breakthrough season

Although still eligible to play at youth level next season, Campos has already established himself as one of the standout prospects in the Barcelona academy.

The 18-year-old centre-back, who is naturally right-footed, enjoyed a breakthrough campaignin 2025/26 after splitting his time between the Juvenil A side and Barça Atletic.

Under Pol Planas, he made 22 appearances for the Juvenil A side, scoring twice, while also captaining Spain’s Under-18 national team.

His development earned him regular opportunities with Barça Atletic under Juliano Belletti, where he featured in 14 Segunda Federacion matches, as he became an increasingly important figure in the second half of the season.

Campos joined Barcelona’s youth setup after being spotted during his time at Atletic Segre. Interestingly, he originally played as a midfielder before being converted into a central defender, a transition that has helped shape his profile.

His comfort on the ball, passing ability and tactical understanding are evident, while his athleticism and physical strength have made him one of the club’s most highly regarded young defenders.

His progress also caught Hansi Flick’s attention, with the teenager invited to train alongside the first team back in October 2024. While he is yet to receive his senior debut, the coaching staff continue to monitor his development closely.

Campos is expected to be an important part of Belletti’s Barça Atletic squad in the upcoming season, with the team’s primary objective being promotion back to Primera Federacion.
