FC Barcelona have officially announced that young defender Andres Cuenca has left the club to sign for Como 1907 in a permanent transfer.

As part of the agreement, the Blaugrana will retain a future sell-on percentage on the La Masia product.

“FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Como 1907 for the transfer of Andres Cuenca to the Italian club. The club retains a percentage of any future sale of the player,” the club statement read.

Cuenca departs

Cuenca joined La Masia in 2019, arriving from the Sevilla youth academy and enjoyed a steady rise through the academy ranks at Barcelona.

The 19-year-old centre-back managed to catch the eye of Barça head coach Hansi Flick and made his first-team debut in October 2024, in a UEFA Champions League clash against BSC Young Boys.

He also made 26 appearances for the reserve team, Barça Atletic, seven of which came in the first half of the last season, before he joined Sporting Gijon on loan in January after renewing his contract.

Now, the teenager, who was part of the Spain squad that won the U19 European Championships this summer, has signed for Como on a permanent transfer.

“FC Barcelona would like to express its gratitude to Andres Cuenca for his commitment, dedication and work during these years at the Club, and wishes him much luck and success, both personally and professionally,” the statement from Barça concluded.

Cuenca says goodbye

A day before the club confirmed the transfer, Cuenca had already announced his departure, while posting an emotional goodbye message to Barcelona and the fans.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye to the place where you’ve grown up. I arrived here as a child and today I’m leaving with a bag full of memories, lessons learnt and people who have left a lasting mark on my life,” he wrote.

“I leave proud of everything we have experienced together and excited to take on a new challenge, knowing that a part of me will always remain here. Thank you for everything. Visca el Barça.”
