Manchester City take on Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with Pep Guardiola serving a touchline ban.
The Blues are entering the cup tie off the back of their first trophy win in two seasons before the international break as Nico O’Reilly‘s brace helped City beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in March.
Guardiola will not be in the dugout at the Etihad Stadium as his side face the reigning Premier League champions, with the Catalan serving the second of his two-game touchline ban after picking up a sixth domestic yellow card of the season against Newcastle United last month.
City – who will be led by assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders against his former club Liverpool on Saturday afternoon – saw Ruben Dias miss the Carabao Cup final win with a hamstring injury, the full extent of which remains unknown as the Blues embark on a monumental run of games against Liverpool (FA Cup), Chelsea (Premier League) and Arsenal (Premier League).

John Stones withdrew from international duty with England last week after sustaining a calf injury in the days leading to the Three Lions’ 1-1 draw with Uruguay – a game that saw Phil Foden go off injured courtesy of a horror ankle challenge from Ronald Araujo.
City are yet to recall Mateo Kovacic – who has returned to full first-team training after recovering from an Achilles surgery – back to action. Josko Gvardiol‘s recovery is progressing well and the 23-year-old defender to expected to start running soon after undergoing surgery for a tibial fracture on his right leg in January.
Liverpool have endured a difficult defence of last season’s Premier League title win and are fighting for UEFA Champions League qualification as they look to end what has so far been an indifferent campaign on a high by going for the FA Cup. The Reds are dealing with a lengthy injury list that is seeing them miss a series of key names this afternoon.
