Cesar Peixoto has provided an update on Wolves' interest in signing Bertrand Traore

Wolves manager Cesar Peixoto has confirmed that the club are closing in on a deal to bring Bertrand Traore to Molineux.

The 31-year-old spent last season with Sunderland, having joined the Black Cats following their promotion to the Premier League.

The Burkina Faso international made 12 appearances in the Premier League, contributing one goal, with Régis Le Bris’ side finishing seventh in the table.

However, he departed earlier in the summer, and is now without a club amid interest from Wolves.

The Championship side had a busy transfer market, as the Old Gold look to build a team capable of earning promotion straight back to the top flight at the first attempt.

But, even with the English window closed, the club’s business may not yet be complete, as they close in on the signing of Traore.

Peixoto has confirmed that the signing of Traore will happen, as he expressed his interest in bringing in a left-footed winger into the side to bolster their options in attack.

He believes that the forward can be the quality addition to the squad that he wants, and that they’ve identified someone that can help their promotion chances this season.

"It's going to happen," said Peixoto, via the BBC.

"It's one more player with quality.

“It's the winger that we need, with a left foot like I want.

"The player will come to improve the team like I want.

“We find the right name to put in the right area."

It’s been claimed that Traore could take the place of Santiago Bueno in Wolves’ 25-man Championship squad, which was officially registered when the transfer window closed last week.

The defender’s future is up in the air, with it being reported he could still be sold due to the market being open in other places such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

Traore previously played in England with Aston Villa prior to his Sunderland switch last summer, and has earned a total of 67 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

A lot of Wolves fans are happy at the prospect of Traore joining the club as a free agent, and believe he’s what the team needs.

The Championship side have been encouraged to complete the deal for the 31-year-old by many.

Supporters have claimed that he could be a real game-changer for Peixoto’s side off the bench, and that he could even compete for a regular starting position.

However, some fans are critical of the process behind his arrival, and have criticised the general lack of quality in the squad.

Wolves will return to action on 13 September in a 12pm kick-off away to Sheffield United.

Bertrand Traore is a good free agent option for Wolves

Wolves had the whole summer to look for the left-footed winger that Peixoto was keen to sign, so it’s not a great look that they’ve waited until after the window to complete a deal.

However, as free agent options go, this is a solid addition for the club that should improve their attacking options.

Traore has plenty of Premier League experience, and getting him to take the step down to the Championship is a positive sign for the Old Gold.

Given his impressive athleticism, and ability to beat a man, he could prove quite a dangerous addition to their forward options in the second tier.
