Conmebol has appointed Chilean official Piero Maza to oversee Flamengo’s Group A trip to Estudiantes on Wednesday 29, in the Libertadores third round, according to Coluna Do Fla.
Maza will be assisted by José Retamal and Miguel Rocha, with Diego Flores as fourth official. Juan Lara is VAR, Edson Cisternas AVAR, and Ricardo Casas is the assessor.
Maza has taken charge of five Flamengo matches to date. In that span the team recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat.
One of those games was the 2025 Libertadores semi-final against Racing, which featured controversy. At 10 minutes of the second half, Gonzalo Plata had his hair pulled by Marcos Rojo. He then struck the Racing defender, after which Maza sent off the Flamengo forward without having seen the incident, and VAR did not intervene.
Flamengo lead Group A with six points from two games, with Estudiantes second on four. Independiente Medellín and Cusco sit on one and zero respectively. Kick-off is at 21:30 Brasília time at the Estádio Jorge Luis Hirschi in La Plata.
