According to Coluna Do Fla, Conmebol has changed the 2026 Libertadores regulations, making head-to-head the first tiebreak in the group stage when teams finish level on points.
Previously, goal difference came first. Under the updated criteria, if the head-to-head is level on aggregate, overall goal difference will decide.
The change is intended to make the competition more balanced, adding extra weight to every group game in the push for the knockouts.
Before their Libertadores bow, Flamengo visit Corinthians on Sunday 22 in the eighth round of the Brasileiro, kicking off at 20:30 Brasília time at Neo Química Arena, São Paulo.
Flamengo are set to open their Libertadores campaign in the week of seven April away to Cusco in Peru, where the hosts play at an altitude of 3,350 metres.
