Contract extension at Bayern? Kane’s timeline is set

FC Bayern wants to extend Harry Kane’s contract early—but a quick agreement appears to be a long way off. The striker has a clear timeline for the talks.

The German record champions would like to clarify the striker’s future as soon as possible. The reason is obvious: Kane’s contract at Säbener Straße runs only until 2027, and behind the scenes, international rivals continue to harbor hopes of signing the Englishman. The longer a solution is delayed, the greater the risk that other clubs will step in.

This is precisely where the problem lies for Munich: it won’t happen quickly. During the World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, Kane will not be holding any contract talks. This is reported by BILD reporter Christian Falk in the “Bayern Insider” podcast. According to the report, the captain of the English national team wants to focus entirely on the tournament—negotiations with his current club are not a priority at the moment and will have to wait until the World Cup is over for him.

With the Three Lions under coach Thomas Tuchel—Vincent Kompany’s predecessor at FC Bayern—Kane is aiming for nothing less than the World Cup title. According to Falk, the striker had already put the club off before: He first wanted to focus on the league title and the Champions League, then calmly discuss his future after the tournament.

Disagreements over contract terms—Bayern has the upper hand

The initial talks apparently did not go entirely smoothly. The magazine *kicker* recently reported that during an initial exchange between the player and the club, there were reportedly “still differences” regarding the terms and duration of the new contract. Kane’s management has also reportedly been approached by other clubs expressing interest.

Nevertheless, Bayern finds itself in a comfortable position. Since the buyout clause in the 32-year-old’s current contract has expired, the Munich club reportedly has “the upper hand,” according to the trade magazine. In other words: Without a clause, they are not forced to let the striker go at a fixed price.

If a deal is successfully concluded, Kane could see a significant financial boost. Sport BILD recently reported that the Englishman could well be in line for a new record salary if he extends his contract with FC Bayern. He is currently said to be earning around 25 million euros per year. However, there are no concrete dates set for a meeting yet—the next talks are not realistic until after the World Cup.
