Argentine top-flight clubs including Boca and River will play their postponed Copa Argentina round-of-32 ties during the 2026 World Cup break, according to SuperDepor.com.
Boca face Sarmiento on Thursday 16, with River meeting Aldosivi on Friday 17. Racing play Defensa y Justicia on the 16, Independiente Rivadavia meet Tigre the same day, and San Lorenzo take on Deportivo Riestra on the 17.
It is a rare occurrence for Primera División sides to play while the World Cup is ongoing in Canada, the United States and Mexico. The schedule stems from clubs opting to postpone earlier dates while contesting the decisive stages of continental competitions, while Racing requested a delay to better manage the departure of coach Gustavo Costas.
These dates fall between the semi-finals and the matches for third place and the title, so supporters will not have to choose between club games and the World Cup. Clubs could be without players whose national teams reach those fixtures, and others returning early may face disrupted pre-season and added workload.
Across the eight teams, eight players have been called up. Boca’s only selection is midfielder Leandro Paredes for Argentina. Gonzalo Montiel has been named by Lionel Scaloni, Matías Viña will travel with Uruguay, Kevin Castaño and Juan Fernando Quintero with Colombia, and Kendry Páez with Ecuador. San Lorenzo’s goalkeeper Orlando Gill has been picked by Paraguay, which has also called up Independiente Rivadavia striker Álex Arce. Racing, Tigre, Sarmiento, Aldosivi and Defensa y Justicia have no players named for the tournament.
