Antonio Cordón has halted a return to Athens after severing ties with Sevilla, choosing to take time to assess international proposals before deciding his next step.
According to La Colina De Nervion, the former sporting director received a tempting offer from Olympiacos, where he worked in 2023-24, but declined so he could study alternatives in South America, Europe and the Middle East.
Cordón’s front office career is lengthy and decorated. He spent 16 years at Villarreal, helped build Monaco’s Ligue one title-winning squad, then oversaw Real Betis from 2020 to 2023 with three straight European qualifications and a Copa del Rey, before a year at Olympiacos.
At Sevilla he led a major rebuild under tight finances. He appointed Matías Almeyda, added César Azpilicueta and Alexis Sánchez, secured the loan of goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, and brought in free agents Juan Iglesias and Arouna Sangante.
His short spell ended on 31 May 2026 by mutual agreement amid the team’s sporting decline. He waived two remaining contract years to ease the settlement, acted as the bridge between Víctor Orta and José Ignacio Navarro, and his future remains open.
