Olympique de Marseille have ended Corinne Diacre’s tenure by mutual consent, eight months after her surprise appointment. The former France coach, 51, was nearing the end of her deal and chose not to continue, with the promoted side securing survival in the Arkema Première Ligue.

According to L'Équipe, Diacre met Stefano Petruzzo, the women’s team general manager, on Tuesday, when an amicable split was agreed after differing views on the project. Individual player meetings for next season had already begun on Monday without the coach, a development seen as a clue to her future.

Appointed on 6 October, a month into the season following the dismissal of Frédéric Gonçalves, Diacre oversaw seven wins, four draws and 12 defeats in all competitions. Marseille finished ninth, four points ahead of Montpellier, the first team outside the relegation places.

Her spell included a 1-2 defeat by Montpellier on 28 March, the first women’s match played by Les Marseillaises at the Vélodrome. That period turned turbulent, with former captain Roselène Khezami lamenting her exclusion and graffiti in Belsunce calling for Diacre’s departure, a first in French women’s football.

Marseille are already weighing up successors, with the identity expected soon to prepare for 2026-27. In November, Diacre said she avoids projecting too far ahead and would review her future once safety was secured. Her immediate future now lies away from Marseille, and with interest in her services, she could return swiftly to the dugout.
