Corinthians academy goalkeeper to retire at end of season

The goalkeeper Danilo Fernandes, identified and developed in the youth categories of Corinthians, announced his retirement as a football player at the end of this season. At 37 years old, he has been playing for Bahia since 2021 and confirmed the decision on the club's official YouTube program.

“I think there was no more perfect scenario than this. No more beautiful opportunity than this. It was meant to be this way, it was meant to be the last jersey I would wear as a professional athlete in my life. There are things that cannot be explained, words are missing to understand this moment, to say beautiful things, I can't. But it was worth it, it was very cool. I am enjoying these days as if I were a boy. It's the fear of the new, but you go with fear anyway“, said the goalkeeper on Bahêa Cast.

A professional since 2008, he debuted for the Corinthians main team only in 2011, under the command of Tite, having an effective participation in the Brazilian championship title that season. He was part of all the youth categories of the alvinegro and even represented the Brazilian youth national team. However, his career was marked by injuries from a young age.

“I am feeling well, but I can't keep up with the pace of football. I don't want to lie to myself. I don't want to lie to another club. My career wasn't like that. I managed to realize the moment. At a high level, for me, it's difficult. I can't, in football language, cheat”, completed Danilo Fernandes.

The goalkeeper won three titles with the Corinthians jersey: Brasileirão (2011), Club World Cup (2012), and Paulistão (2013). In total, he played 27 games, conceding 24 goals in 11 wins, nine draws, and seven losses.
