Corinthians have advanced talks to extend Memphis Depay’s deal, with an expectation of a June resolution before the World Cup. The 32-year-old will join the Netherlands in the United States.
According to Globo.com, a recent summit was the first to address detailed renewal scenarios, with his contract up on 20 June. There is still no formal offer, but expectations were aligned and negotiations moved onto firmer ground.
Commercial interest in the project has grown, aided by last week’s fan-led #RenovaComMemphis campaign. Ezze Seguros want him as an ambassador after the tournament and could tie any sponsorship extension, which ends in June, to that role.
The insurer is working to an ideal figure rather than a set share to help the club. Main sponsor Esportes da Sorte remain in talks, while other brands are engaged, though his camp view a deal as unworkable without club funding. Football executive Marcelo Paz is helping lead the process.
Any new agreement would drop the current bonus structure. Memphis prioritises staying and is open to a wage cut, while the club’s roughly R$ 42 million debt could be paid in instalments, with a two-season extension to mid 2028 on the table.
Back from a right thigh injury, he returned on Sunday with just over 30 minutes against Atlético-MG. He is expected to feature again on Wednesday against Platense in the final Libertadores group game, and, if called up for the World Cup, will be released afterwards to report in Europe on Thursday.
