Corinthians analysts flag tactical hurdles v Gotham

Corinthians Women continue their preparations for the Copa das Campeãs and will face a challenge with different characteristics right from the start: Gotham FC from the United States. In an interview with Corinthians TV, members of the Brabas’ coaching staff analyzed the matchup and emphasized the importance of international experience for the team's growth.

Bruno Faust, responsible for performance analysis for Corinthians Women, highlighted that although Gotham is part of the North American league, the opposing team has particularities that require special attention from the alvinegra athletes. According to him, the playing style implemented by the Spanish coach of the U.S. club will be one of the main points of contention in the semifinal.

“I think that, although they are part of the American League, they have a particular characteristic, which is having a Spanish coach, and he really implements this philosophy of possession football. So, I think a challenge we will have in this regard is knowing how to confront this characteristic of theirs, which is one of the strengths of the North American team,” said Bruno.

The analyst also recalled Corinthians’ participation in the Teal Rising Cup, held last year in Kansas City, United States, as a relevant factor in preparing for the current moment. For him, the experience against teams from the North American league directly contributes to the athletes’ adaptation to the pace and intensity of international play.

“Certainly, even though they are teams with different characteristics. Kansas plays a more direct game, but facing teams that are used to playing against each other, experiencing the intensity they are used to implementing in the game, feeling what is different, what is the same, it’s definitely better preparation for our athletes,” he explained.

In addition to Bruno Faust, performance analyst Gustavo Manara also commented on the relevance of Corinthians playing in international competitions and facing opponents from different countries and styles. For him, the tournament represents an important step for a club that has already established itself on the national and South American stage.

“I think it’s a very important experience for Corinthians, which has established itself as a reference in national football and, at the South American level, as well. So, taking this step at the international level is very important. We’ve had a very good season, in my opinion. I think we are very focused, very confident in what we want to do in the competition. It will be a very, very enriching experience for all of us,” evaluated Gustavo.

Corinthians begin their journey in the Copa das Campeãs against Gotham FC next Wednesday (28th) at 9:30 a.m. (Brasília time) and, if they advance, could face ASFAR from Morocco or Arsenal from England in the next stage of the competition.
