Corinthians beat Ponte Preta away in their last meeting

This Sunday, the 11th, Corinthians will face Ponte Preta again at 4:00 PM (Brasília time) at the Neo Química Arena, for the first round of the Campeonato Paulista. The teams meet again after their last match played in the 2025 state championship in Campinas.

The most recent match between Corinthians and Ponte Preta took place on January 29, 2025, at the Moisés Lucarelli stadium, for the fifth round of the Paulistão. In a match marked by heavy rain and poor field conditions, Timão won 1-0, with a goal by Talles Magno.

The first half of that match was characterized by both teams struggling to string passes together and build offensive plays, largely due to the state of the pitch. Even so, Corinthians managed to create opportunities and threatened with shots that were stopped by goalkeeper Diogo Silva.

In the second half, the game became a bit more dynamic. Taking advantage of one of the few clear chances created, Timão opened the scoring with Talles Magno. After taking the lead, Corinthians still had to deal with the sending off of José Martínez, but managed to organize defensively and hold on to the result until the final whistle, preventing any reaction from Ponte Preta.

The winning goal came in the 22nd minute of the second half. Romero found Talles Magno at the edge of the box, and the striker took advantage of the puddles on the pitch to shake off his marker and finish precisely into the goalkeeper's left corner, securing the black-and-white victory in Campinas.

The rematch happens in a different context for both clubs. Corinthians start the 2026 season riding the momentum of winning the Copa do Brasil at the end of last year, a title that marked the team's return to national prominence. Meanwhile, Ponte Preta arrives at the Paulistão after lifting the Série C trophy of the Brazilian Championship, the first national title in its history.

Now, in front of the Fiel, Timão looks to start the state championship with a positive result and regain their favorable record against Ponte Preta at home.
