Corinthians boss mocks Vasco, Vasco fans fume

Corinthians coach Lucas Piccinato stirred up Vasco da Gama during a press conference this Friday (31), at CT Joaquim Grava, while commenting on his ambition to win the Women’s Paulista Championship. The coach, jokingly, associated the possibility of being runner-up once again with the Rio de Janeiro club — and sparked outrage among Vasco fans on social media.

“I’m very happy with what we’ve already achieved, but we have the Paulista Championship knocking at our door. Personally, I have four runner-up finishes in the Paulista. If I get another runner-up, I’ll be Vasco da Gama — just kidding, the guys joke about it,” said Piccinato, in a lighthearted tone.

Although the coach tried to soften his statement right after, his words had a negative impact among Vasco fans, who considered the comment disrespectful to the club’s history. Vasco-related profiles reacted on social media, demanding respect and recalling the club’s major titles, such as the 1998 Copa Libertadores, the 1997 Brazilian Championship, and recent achievements in youth categories.
