Corinthians have had their Brasileirão opener against Bahia moved forward to Wednesday, 28 January, as the CBF adjusts the calendar in Supercopa week.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the fixture had been set for Thursday, 29 January, but Corinthians were unhappy at playing a day after Flamengo before their Supercopa meeting on one February in Brasília. With the change, Dorival Júnior’s team play at 20:00 Brasília time at Vila Belmiro.
Flamengo’s league opener remains set for 21:30 at Morumbis on 28 January. What had been a supposed advantage of playing later than Corinthians becomes a match before their rivals, plus a trip, unlike their Supercopa opponents.
To play on the Wednesday, Corinthians reached an agreement with Santos. São Paulo police do not allow two major capital clubs to host on the same day in the city, so Corinthians requested to use Vila Belmiro.
In return, Santos will stage a Brasileirão game at Neo Química Arena, with the likely choice against Red Bull Bragantino in May. Santos often take some matches to the capital due to their large support.
Flamengo face Corinthians in the Supercopa do Brasil at 16:00 on one February in the federal capital, a meeting of the league and Copa do Brasil holders. Before then, Flamengo face Vasco on Wednesday, 21 January, then Fluminense on 25 January in the Carioca, before visiting São Paulo on 28 January.
