Corinthians’ Justice Committee found contradictions in vice-president Armando Mendonça’s explanations and concluded there were statute breaches in the management of Nike-supplied kit, sending its opinion to the Ethics Committee requesting disciplinary proceedings.

According to Globo.com, the committee said statutory duties covering asset protection, administrative and financial controls, expected conduct and institutional integrity were violated.

The review followed an audit led by Marcelo Munhoes, which identified irregularities in kit management and placed Mendonça at the centre of nonconformities. He did not deny them, arguing they stemmed from systemic failings and a lack of controls and traceability.

The opinion cites significant withdrawals of items linked to him, some unrecorded or treated as loans. It found five contradictions in his testimony and said irregularities were repeated without controls or later regularisation, concluding informal practices were consciously adopted and that there are sufficient indications of disciplinary infraction.

The committee said miscontrol, stock build-up, misdistribution and no formal inventory could trigger sanctions such as suspension or expulsion. In Mendonça’s case, it said the matter could meet impeachment articles, and it sought a separate probe into alleged intimidation involving Mendonça and administrative superintendent Ricardo Okabe.

The Ethics Committee will deepen the investigation, define responsibilities and propose penalties for a final decision by the council. Mendonça described the case as political persecution, said he never oversaw kit control, requested an independent audit and would resign if any theft were proven. He awaits the police inquiry and denies any immoral or illegal act. Okabe denies intimidation.
