Corinthians issued a public statement on Friday condemning violence and expressing solidarity with Ceará president João Paulo Silva, after he said a bomb was sent to his daughter.

UOL Esporte reports that the Civil and Military Police were called and are investigating the delivery, with no suspects identified so far.

The club said that violence and sport do not mix, adding its support to Silva and his family. President Osmar Stabile also condemned the intimidation and offered solidarity.

Silva said the incident came to light after a social media post on Thursday. He wrote that his daughter received a package at her theatre class containing an explosive device, flowers, chocolates and a letter of threats, and suffered a panic attack.

He said this was the latest in a series of attacks against him and his relatives. As club president he accepts criticism, he added, but said innocents were targeted and he is pursuing legal measures to protect his family and Ceará Sporting Club.

The episode comes amid heightened tension at Ceará. Supporters have recently protested outside the Porangabuçu headquarters, and in one demonstration the Military Police used stun grenades to disperse crowds as videos showed fans urging an end due to children present.

On the pitch, Ceará have been knocked out of other competitions and remain in Série B of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Under pressure, the club have appointed Daniel Paulista as head coach.
