The club said Memphis Depay has begun his physical transition after a thigh injury, moving him closer to a return.

He has not played since 22 March against Flamengo in the Brasileiro, when he sustained a grade 2 anterior thigh injury. Gui Negão has a similar issue and has already trained partially with the group.

During the FIFA window he travelled to Europe to work with his national team’s medics, returning to Brazil in the early hours of 4 April after an alternative recovery plan.

He had targeted minutes in the 12 April derby with Palmeiras and a start against Independiente Santa Fe on 22 April, but a setback, attributed to a preparation error, delayed the comeback and created friction with the club.

In response, the Dutchman asked Spanish physiotherapist Fermin Valera to come to Brazil to align methods with Corinthians’ staff.

Despite progress, he has been ruled out of Thursday’s meeting with Peñarol at Neo Química Arena, 21:00, in the third round of the Copa Libertadores group stage. In 2026 he has 12 appearances for Corinthians, a 44.4% points return, and one goal on 15 March against Santos.

The injury list also includes João Pedro Tchoca, pubic pain, Charles, a right heel problem, Hugo Farias, lateral meniscus surgery in his right knee, and Kayke, a left ACL rupture.
