Corinthians councillor Peterson Ruan has challenged the club’s lifetime seats, urging their extinction and demanding the minutes that justify their creation and approval in a letter to Deliberative Council president Romeu Tuma Júnior.
According to Boletim Corinthiano, Ruan argues the lifetime status breaches core governance principles, including rotation of power, equal treatment of members and non-permanent mandates. He adds that lifetime councillors wield outsized influence and can block matters touching their own interests.
He cites disorder on nine March, when a Deliberative Council meeting to vote on a draft statute reform was derailed. Ruan says lifetime councillors disrupted the session, preventing the vote.
During that meeting, club president and lifetime councillor Osmar Stabile accused Tuma, also a lifetime councillor, of threat and coercion. The session was halted, the vote cancelled and sent to a General Assembly, and Stabile then asked the Ethics and Discipline Commission to remove Tuma as council president.
The document claims the group has dominated leadership for the past 20 years, rotating in power yet failing to embed serious and competent governance. It links this to a lack of sustained moves to implement responsible financial management and curb administrative failings.
Ruan maintains there is no acquired right to lifetime status under the Civil Code or top court rulings, so the model can be changed or abolished collectively. He attaches a list of 90 lifetime councillors and, if irregularities are found, seeks a General Assembly to vote on scrapping the role and updating the Statute, requesting urgent analysis.
