Corinthians director: Stabile praised, card woes and injuries discussed

On the evening of last Tuesday (11), Corinthians’ football executive, Fabinho Soldado, was one of the club’s representatives at the launch event for the 2026 Campeonato Paulista, which took place at Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu. In the initial phase, the Alvinegro will face Palmeiras, São Paulo, Santos, Ponte Preta, RB Bragantino, Capivariano, São Bernardo FC, and Velo Clube.

The Corinthians official gave an interview to the press in the mixed zone and was questioned on various topics, such as: his relationship with influential people in the daily life at Parque São Jorge, the team’s excess of yellow cards, the suspension of midfielder Rodrigo Garro for the Majestoso derby against São Paulo in the Brasileirão, and his alignment with Osmar Stabile.

Presence of Fran Papairdanou, president of the Football Committee of the club’s Deliberative Council at the Paulista Federation event and his relationship with board members and influential people at Parque São Jorge:

“I rarely go to Parque São Jorge. When I meet with people from the club, with the board, the conversation is always very friendly, because the main concern will always be Corinthians. About these topics, I don’t shy away from them, but I don’t have much to say. My position is a football role, I am paid for that, and what concerns me is managing this squad, the Training Center, staff, and planning for what’s left for the end of the year, that’s what I’ve been focusing on.”

“The rest is not up to me, the president has led all these political matters, all these issues. The person appointed for this is Osmar (Stabile). I’ve seen this at the CT, the concern he has every day with us there. It’s not been easy, but with everyone’s effort, with the collaboration of all of Corinthians. He is the fan, he is the political part that is important to the club, who knows it very well, knows how he will help. We hope to unite forces so that Corinthians becomes stronger each time.”

Excess of yellow cards for the team and the suspension of midfielder Rodrigo Garro for the derby against São Paulo, in the 34th round of the Brasileirão, after his third yellow card against Ceará:

“I watch other championships and you notice that the end of this competition is very tense. It happens with other teams too at the end of the game, it’s a card that could somehow have been avoided, but it’s a matter of seconds for a decision. The coaching staff has been demanding, they work so that the athletes give even more physically, technically, and sometimes, the excess happens. Now, it’s funny because so many things happen in football. When you lose a game, sometimes in that game you won, the same things happened and our reaction day to day, they are necessary actions for the moments. Moments of demands, moments when you need to support the athlete.”

Praise for Dorival Júnior and dissatisfaction of the squad with the last two games:

“So, it’s a super experienced coaching staff. Dorival is a Brazilian coach who knows the competition very well, has worked in other teams, knows how to handle it. For every moment that needs some action, you can be sure it happens. I’m from football, I have 30 years in football, I was an athlete and we know the moment to intervene. All interventions happen in the way they have to and in the way we think they should.”

“No one will put words in our mouths, no one will make us make a decision that isn’t the right one. And it will be demands, it will be support, it will be encouragement, it will be whatever is necessary for the moment. And this moment now is indeed a moment of reflection; a time for us to think about these five games. Again, the players are not happy with the recent results, neither is the coaching staff, nor the management, nor the president. But now the rest is to prepare better during this FIFA break so we can finish this in a more honorable way. And, of course, the expectation and the thought ahead for those two Copa do Brasil games.”

Return of injured players for the final stretch of the year: Hugo Souza, Raniele, André, and Vitinho

“The time (FIFA break) is for that. It’s not just Raniele and Hugo (Souza), there’s Vitinho, André. So, it’s a moment that Dorival is counting on these athletes to be recovered. It’s hard for me to say about this part, but what I can say is that the progress has been good. Corinthians is a team, if you analyze, is one of the first teams that has a faster recovery time for players. Injuries happen to all teams, but if you study this, and we have, our recovery is very good because of all the work being done at Corinthians.”
