Corinthians end Palacios Ukraine loan, send him to Ecuador instead

The Ecuadorian left-back Diego Palacios will have a new destination. Karpaty, from Ukraine, officially announced the termination of the player's loan contract, and Corinthians soon formalized a new loan for the player, this time to Universidad Católica, from Ecuador, until the end of 2026.

“Diego Palacios has left Karpaty. Karpaty and Corinthians terminated the Ecuadorian's contract by mutual agreement. The Ecuadorian joined the green-and-white in August 2025. During this time, Palacios played one match in the Ukrainian Cup and one game in the Ukrainian League. Karpaty Football Club wishes Diego success in his career,” announced the Ukrainian club.

Palacios had been loaned to Karpaty in August 2025, with a contract expected to last until the end of the European season, on June 30, 2026. However, the experience was short and below expectations. In about six months in Ukraine, the left-back took the field only twice and had not been included in the squad since October.

Corinthians reported that, with the new loan of the left-back to Ecuadorian football, the club will save approximately R$ 2.6 million in its payroll until the end of the season – see the statement released by the club below.

Signed by Corinthians in 2024 with the expectation of becoming the starting left-back, the player faced a series of chronic injuries to his left knee, a situation that ended up causing a crisis in the medical department of the São Paulo club. During this period, Diego Palacios played only four matches wearing the Timão shirt.

The player's contract with Alvinegro Paulista is valid until December 31, 2027. However, it is unlikely that the Ecuadorian player will wear the Corinthians shirt again, as he has not been in the club’s plans since last season.

With the player's loan until the end of the year, Corinthians will save R$ 2,600,000.00 on payroll.
