Corinthians equal best Brasileirão start since 2022 after Athletico-PR win | OneFootball

Corinthians beat Athletico-PR 1-0 at Arena da Baixada on Thursday night in a rescheduled round two match, moving to six points from three games and equalling their best Brasileirão start since 2022.

The campaign opened with a 2-1 defeat to Bahia at Vila Belmiro after leading, then a 2-0 home win over Red Bull Bragantino at Neo Química Arena. According to Meu Timao, Corinthians have seven Brazilian league titles, most recently in 2017.

In 2022, they also took six points from the first three rounds, beating Botafogo and Avaí before losing to Palmeiras. They finished fourth on 65 points, earning direct entry to the 2023 Copa Libertadores.

The same three-game opening returned in 2018, with wins over Fluminense and Paraná followed by defeat to Atlético Mineiro. That season ended in 13th place with 44 points and a Copa Sudamericana berth.

Starts were quieter elsewhere. In 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2025 they managed four points from the first three matches, in 2023 they took three, and in 2024 just one despite a late surge into the Libertadores after escaping the drop zone.

Corinthians currently sit fifth, aiming to keep pace near the top while steering clear of the relegation fight that has coloured recent seasons.

They return to the Brasileirão next Wednesday away to Cruzeiro at the Mineirão at 20:00 in round four. Before that comes a decisive Campeonato Paulista quarter-final against Portuguesa on Sunday at 20:30.
