Corinthians ethics panel recommends expulsion of Marcelo Mariano over VaideBet case | OneFootball

Corinthians’ Ethics and Discipline Committee has closed four cases, recommending the expulsion of former administrative director Marcelo Mariano, issuing two warnings and archiving one.

According to Meu Timao, Mariano is a defendant over the VaideBet affair, accused of ordering a R$ 1.4 million transfer to Rede Social Media Design, which police say fronted a scheme diverting funds to organised crime.

The scandal had already seen the Deliberative Council vote in May to expel ex-president Augusto Melo from the membership after an ethics recommendation. He had been removed from the presidency in August last year by a General Assembly.

Committee chair Leonardo Pantaleão will send Mariano’s case to council president Romeu Tuma Júnior for a vote. Two further expulsions await scheduling, against councillors Mario Mello Júnior, over the 31 May invasion of Parque São Jorge last year, and Manoel Ramos Evangelista, for an alleged threat and a racial insult.

Ex-legal director and councillor Yun Ki Lee will have his case archived after a police probe in early 2024 was dropped. Councillor Antônio Roque Citadini was warned over remarks about a supposed pact involving ex-presidents and Osmar Stabile’s re-election, and vice-president Armando Mendonça was warned after a social-media row in which he insulted a supporter and claimed credit for ousting a president and delivering a Copa do Brasil. Under the statute, archiving and warnings apply automatically, with any appeal handled by the council board of Tuma, Pantaleão and second secretary Denis Piovesan.
