“He knows the new deal will not match the current one. It will have to be on lower, considerably different terms, and we are working with partners to make it viable,” said Marcelo Paz. He told Derby Todo Dia.

Memphis Depay has 45 days left on his Corinthians contract, and the club have been seeking backers to finance a renewal.

His deal, signed in September 2024, includes a signing-on fee, title bonuses, appearance, goal and assist clauses, plus salary and image rights, estimated at around R$ 3 million per month. Master sponsor Esportes da Sorte had covered part of his pay, but after its renewal with the club early this year, about R$ 57 million stopped going exclusively to his contract.

Given the complexity, Corinthians opened talks with companies willing to assume 100% of his wages. The club are currently in discussions with two firms, one of them Esportes da Sorte, and outstanding points on the future deal are being aligned. The proposal on the table is a two-season extension.

Wednesday marks one month of Fernando Diniz in charge. Paz said Diniz has already implemented parts of his methodology and delivered some immediate results, which the board expected. “There is a big focus on getting out of this situation soon... there is a lot of focus on the Brasileiro and the conviction that, soon, we will get out of this uncomfortable situation,” he added.
