Corinthians face Chapecoense again after over four years apart

Corinthians takes the field this Thursday night (19th) at 9:30 PM (Brasília time) to face Chapecoense at Arena Condá, in a match valid for the seventh round of the Brazilian Championship. Timão meets the opponent again after more than four years without facing each other, as the team from Santa Catarina did not compete in the top tier of Brazilian football between 2022 and 2025.

Corinthians and Chapecoense last faced each other in 2021, in the Brazilian Championship. The Corinthians team won both matches. In the first game, played in Chapecó, the Alvinegro Paulista secured a 1-0 victory with a goal from Jô. In the second match, in Itaquera, Timão repeated the score, with a goal from Róger Guedes.

The current Corinthians squad does not include any players who played against Chapecoense that year. In the first match of 2023, Timão, led by Sylvinho, took the field with: Cássio, Fagner, Gil, João Victor, Fábio Santos, Gabriel, Vitinho, Cantillo, Gustavo Silva, Mateus Vital, and Jô.

In the second-round match of that season's Brazilian Championship, Sylvinho chose to field a team with: Matheus Donelli, Fagner, João Victor, Gil, and Fábio Santos; Gabriel, Du Queiroz, Giuliano, Róger Guedes, and Gabriel Pereira; Renato Augusto.

Currently, the Alvinegro is in ninth place in the standings with eight points – two wins, two draws, and two losses – six goals scored and seven conceded. A victory against Chapecoense could move Timão up to sixth place in the Brasileirão, should other teams falter.

After facing Chapecoense away at Arena Condá, Corinthians remains focused on the national competition. On the night of next Sunday (22nd), at 9:30 PM (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will host Flamengo at the Neo Química Arena for the eighth round of the 2026 Brazilian Championship.
