Corinthians beat São Paulo 3-2 at Neo Química Arena in round 15 of the Campeonato Brasileiro, yet debate centred on Damián Bobadilla avoiding a red card for an alleged obscene celebration. According to Meu Timao, Matheuzinho led appeals after seeing it.

The flashpoint came on 41 minutes when Luciano scored after Raniele lost the ball to Bobadilla. While others celebrated, Bobadilla ran towards his bench and gestured with his hands near his groin.

Matheuzinho urged referee Anderson Daronco to check VAR. Objects were thrown at São Paulo players, the match paused for about 10 minutes, then assistant Rodolpho Toski Marques sent Daronco to the monitor.

Officials spent around two minutes reviewing footage and judged the act interpretative, noting there was no apparent contact, but still advised an on-field look. Daronco cited cultural factors with some foreign players and chose not to punish, outlining his decision to the crowd.

After the game, Matheuzinho said he felt the gesture was out of order at the time but accepted the decision if replays showed nothing offensive, adding he merely alerted the referee as rivals had done previously.

Corinthians questioned consistency, pointing to recent reds for Allan and André Luiz for similar gestures, both punished with minimum bans and club fines. The offence falls under article 258 of the CBJD for conduct contrary to sporting discipline. Corinthians host Barra-SC on Thursday at 19:30 in the Copa do Brasil, needing only a draw after a 1-0 first-leg win sealed by Jesse Lingard.
