Corinthians grab late away draw with Bahia in U20 Copa do Brasil

Corinthians visited Bahia on the afternoon of Thursday (26th), in a match valid for the second round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-20, at CT Evaristo de Macedo, and drew with a score of 2-2. The goals for the Alvinegro were scored by midfielder Gui Amorim and forward Luiz Fernando – the latter in the final minutes. The result left the Corinthians team in third place with four points – six goals scored and two conceded.

Coach William Batista lined up Timãozinho as follows to start the match: Matheus Corrêa; João Vitor ‘Jacaré’, Lorenzo, Iago Machado, and Guilherme Pires; Luiz Gustavo Bahia, Luiz Eduardo, and Gui Amorim; Nicollas, Luizinho, and Luiz Fábio ‘Favela’. The bench options were: Pietro, Guilherme Pellegrin, Yago Melo, Caraguá, Levy Dias, Vitinho Dourado, Yago Gonçalves, Christian Oliveira, and Nicolas Araújo.

Corinthians started the match performing better than Bahia, managing to press the ball out and imposing their well-crafted game strategy. The Alvinegro’s good performance paid off and, in the latter half of the first period, midfielder Gui Amorim opened the scoring with a stunning goal from outside the box, after Iago Machado stole the ball in defense and set up Timãozinho’s number 10.

After taking the lead, Bahia began to chase the result and went on the attack against Corinthians, who only managed to keep their goal intact thanks to goalkeeper Matheus Corrêa. In the second half, the Filhos do Terrão returned distracted and saw the opponent turn the match around, becoming superior in the game. Even so, the club from Parque São Jorge managed to snatch a draw. At 44 minutes of the second half, Luiz Fernando exchanged passes with Yago Gonçalves and finished to score a beautiful goal against Victor. End of the match: 2-2.

After the draw against Bahia, away from home, Corinthians return to the field next Monday (2nd), at 8:00 pm (Brasília time), to face Grêmio. The match will be valid for the third round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-20 and will be played at the Pavilhão (Airton Ferreira da Silva Stadium).
