Corinthians’ 1-0 defeat to Palmeiras at Neo Química Arena on Sunday was marked by another missed penalty, underscoring a year-long slump from the spot.

Meu Timao notes that over the last 12 months the club have scored five of 10 penalties, a 50% rate, the worst among the 20 Série A sides, level with Remo on 50% from four of eight.

The key moment came late in the first half in Itaquera. Memphis slipped as he struck, sending his effort wide after his standing foot landed on a damaged patch near the penalty spot. The damage had been caused by Andreas Pereira and went unnoticed by Corinthians players and the match officials.

Memphis later accepted responsibility on social media. Corinthians have already missed both penalties taken this season, the first by Yuri Alberto in the clássico at Santos and the second by Memphis in Sunday’s derby. Both cost points in the state standings.

At the other end of the scale, RB Bragantino have converted 10 of 10, Botafogo nine of nine and Santos seven of seven in the same period.
