Corinthians have been hit with Conmebol sanctions for incidents on 20 August against Rosario Central at Neo Química Arena, alongside a two game ban for Raniele after his red card.
According to Meu Timao, fines total 49 thousand dollars, about R$ 250 thousand, for breaches of the Disciplinary Code, Club Manual and Security Regulations, to be deducted from broadcast and sponsorship revenues. The club was also warned over flag use and scheduling.
The Rosario Central case includes 20 thousand dollars for attempted pitch invasion and 10 thousand dollars for pyrotechnics, plus penalties for post match media non compliance and improper messages. Raniele also received a 4 thousand dollar sanction.
A further 7 thousand dollars followed the 21 May group game with Peñarol, for damage and failure to supply travel schedule details, taking the tally to 56 thousand dollars, about R$ 285.7 thousand. The club and Fernando Diniz were cautioned for delaying the second half restart.
Corinthians could yet face action over an obscene gesture by Memphis Depay after his equaliser in last Wednesday’s 1-1 first leg with Estudiantes. He will not miss the return, as his defence deadline is 17 September, a day after the match. The decisive home leg is on Wednesday 16 September at 21:30, when Corinthians must win by the minimum margin.
