Corinthians keeper on Brasileirão final: “We never celebrate draws”

On the morning of this Sunday, September 7th, Corinthians went to Estádio Independência, Minas Gerais, to face Cruzeiro in the first leg of the Women's Brazilian Championship final, and drew with a score of 2 x 2. The goals for the Brabas were scored by full-back Gi Fernandes and midfielder Gabi Zanotti.

After the final whistle, goalkeeper Nicole gave an interview to journalists in the mixed zone and celebrated the opportunity to participate in the clash between the two best women's teams at the moment, both of which have been investing more and more.

“We talk a lot about investments, about sponsorships, about everything, and today we see the result of two very well-done jobs. Two projects that received good investment. I think today was a crowning moment for the excellent work done by both Corinthians and Cruzeiro with women's football. I think today was a reflection of this great spectacle, a full house, a good game. I think today showed how important it is to invest and give due importance to the sport,” she began.

Next, she spoke about the fact that the return leg between the teams is scheduled for next Sunday, September 14th, at 10:30 am (Brasília time), at Neo Química Arena. Afterwards, she analyzed the draw in this morning’s match.

“It’s a spectacle. Playing at Neo Química Arena is always very good for us. We haven’t had the opportunity this year yet. When we get there, it’s always a full house, always the fans supporting us. So, we hope it will be a great atmosphere, a good vibe, and we’re going to go all out to win this title.”

“I think we performed well, played a good game, I think we created many opportunities, unfortunately we didn’t know how to finish the chances we had. The goals we conceded were two silly defensive mistakes, from set pieces, which I think we need to pay attention to and fix. But in the end, every detail makes a difference, so we didn’t score here and conceded there. And, in the end, the score was tied because we didn’t take advantage of the chances we had. I don’t think the performance itself was bad, I think we can be better in the final third and also fix those defensive mistakes we had,” she continued.

Finally, she commented on whether, given the circumstances of the game, the draw was a good result: “I don’t think so. I don’t think we’ll ever celebrate a draw. We’ll always go for the win. Especially today, as I said, I think we had many more clear opportunities, so I don’t think the draw itself is satisfactory for us. We know we could have done better, but we’ll have another big game at home and we’ll do everything to get a great win there too,” she concluded.

Corinthians and Cruzeiro will play the second leg of the Women's Brazilian Championship final next Sunday, September 14th, at 10:30 am (Brasília time), in Itaquera. The Brabas are seeking their seventh national title, and sixth in a row.
