Corinthians celebrate 116 years on Tuesday, a journey that began by lamplight in Bom Retiro in 1910. According to Meu Timao, five workers founded the club to give football back to the people.

Influenced by English side Corinthian Casuals, Timão soon broke class and race barriers. It quickly became São Paulo’s most popular club, with a proudly working-class, combative identity.

In the 80s, Democracia Corinthiana reshaped sport and society. Led by Sócrates, Casagrande, Wladimir and Zenon, players shared football decisions and used their platform to back political reopening and Diretas Já in Brazil.

From 2016, the Brabas led a women’s revolution. A partnership with Audax gave way to an in-house, pioneering project from 2018, making the team South America’s benchmark. They piled up Libertadores, Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil and Paulista titles, set world records for unbeaten runs and silverware, and filled the Neo Química Arena.

At midnight, the club marked the birthday on social channels with an emotional video. The message stressed a love passed through generations, a feeling that keeps growing with Timão and the Fiel.
