Corinthians’ number 10 could miss Flamengo clash in the Brasileirão

Next Sunday, September 28, Corinthians will host Flamengo at 8:30 PM (Brasília time) at Maracanã Stadium, in a match valid for the 25th round of the Brazilian Championship. For the match, striker Memphis Depay is still doubtful, as he is recovering from edema in the posterior muscle of his right thigh.

The number 10 has not played since September 10, when he was substituted at halftime during the second leg of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals against Athletico-PR at Neo Química Arena, due to muscle pain. According to information published by ge.globo, the Corinthians medical department is being cautious regarding the player’s injury and may not clear him for the match against the team from Rio.

The final decision on the player’s presence in the weekend’s match should be made in the coming days, depending on the evolution of his clinical condition. Internally, there is an understanding that now is not the time to take risks with the striker, one of the main players on the Corinthians squad.

Furthermore, according to ge.globo, the match against Flamengo is considered important in the Brazilian Championship, but on the other hand, it is not decisive in terms of the standings at the end of the season. This Wednesday, September 24, there was an expectation that he could train with the group.

However, the data collected by the Corinthians medical department indicated that it was still not the ideal time to start the transition process to the pitch. There is also no certainty that the number 10 can currently play at a high level without some kind of restriction. Corinthians believes that the priority is the athlete’s full recovery.

In the current season, Memphis Depay has eight goals and 10 assists in 38 matches. The number 10 is the team's second top scorer of the year, behind only Yuri Alberto (13), and the club’s top assist provider at Parque São Jorge in 2025 (10).
