Meu Timao reports that Corinthians have opened talks to sign Botafogo goalkeeper Neto, with negotiations for the 36-year-old at an early stage.

Although the domestic window closes on Tuesday at 23:59, Brazilian clubs can still sign players who featured in the state championships until 27 March via the CBF’s exception window. Neto is eligible, having played in the Carioca for Botafogo.

Corinthians returned to the market for an experienced keeper after Fortaleza’s João Ricardo failed medical tests this week.

Neto lost his starting place after successive errors, with Léo Linck preferred. He has not been included in the last three matchday squads this year, including Tuesday’s tie against Barcelona de Guayaquil in the final preliminary round of the Libertadores qualifiers.

He joined Botafogo in August last year on a deal to June 2027 and has made nine appearances, conceding 12 goals. The Athletico Paranaense graduate has also played for Juventus and Fiorentina, Valencia and Barcelona, and Arsenal and Bournemouth.

Hugo Souza is currently first choice at Corinthians. Back-ups Felipe Longo, aged 20, and Kauê, 22, have limited senior minutes, and 16-year-old Gustavo Milani was recently named in a squad during Longo’s injury.

Corinthians have already added Gabriel Paulista, Pedro Milans, Matheus Pereira, Allan, Zakaria Labyad and Kaio César, and confirmed the return of Fabrizio Angileri. The club are also preparing the announcement of English midfielder Jesse Lingard.
