Corinthians president Osmar Stabile says the club’s Conselho de Orientação has approved a payment plan to settle the Talleres debt relating to Rodrigo Garro. According to Meu Timao, talks are in the final phase after FIFA ordered a $3.6 million payment, about R$ 18.7 million, which could near R$ 40 million with charges.
"It was approved and we are now in the final phase, exchanging documents and drafts. For now we cannot comment out of respect for Talleres, but Cori approved it," said Stabile. "It only depends on approving these drafts, a team is working solely on that. I believe we will have a final outcome as soon as possible, maybe this week or early next week," he told ge.globo.
The dispute dates to February last year, when Corinthians lost a FIFA case over the midfielder. The claim also covers interest, taxes, damages and legal costs, and the club is awaiting a CAS appeal.
Talks had stalled amid the strained relationship between former president Augusto Melo, who signed Garro in 2024, and Talleres. CNN Esportes reports there is a pre-agreement and that Talleres asked CAS to pause proceedings for 15 days to allow the first instalment and avoid another transfer ban.
Stabile travelled to Argentina to meet Talleres president Andrés Fassi, a gesture welcomed by the Córdoba club’s hierarchy. The current board’s approach has helped unlock progress.
An internal finance group set up by Stabile has also worked on clearing debts, including with Santos Laguna for Félix Torres, and on the Matías Rojas case. The same team is steering talks with Talleres, after Corinthians sent three payment proposals at the Argentine club’s request.
