José Martínez returned to Corinthians on Saturday after more than a month out with passport issues, and president Osmar Stabile said the hierarchy will discuss the matter internally before meeting the player.
Corinthians were beaten on penalties in the Dérbi that decided the Supercopa do Brasil Feminina after a 1-1 draw, and Stabile spoke in the mixed zone afterwards. According to Meu Timao, he confirmed Martínez had arrived and reported to the training ground, but he had not yet spoken to him.
He set out a sequence in which the board would meet first, then he would speak with Marcelo Paz, followed by a discussion involving Paz and head coach Dorival Júnior, and only then would the player be called in.
Martínez had been absent since three January after returning to Venezuela to renew his passport. The document was held up after border closures amid the country’s political crisis, and the player told the club the application was filed on 13 January and issued on Friday.
The delay frustrated the football department, with Dorival saying on several occasions that the midfielder had not answered his messages and that options for a holding role were scarce. In January, Martínez said the holdup was bureaucratic, that he wanted to return to training as soon as possible, and that he had stayed in touch with the board.
