Corinthians beat São Paulo 3-2 at Neo Química Arena on Sunday, but the derby was overshadowed by a row over Damián Bobadilla’s celebration. Raniele said the midfielder should have been sent off and questioned the officials’ consistency.
As reported by Meu Timao, he pointed to recent reds for Allan and André Luiz for similar gestures as evidence of unclear criteria.
The flashpoint came late in the first half when Luciano scored after Bobadilla intercepted a Raniele pass. Bobadilla then moved towards the São Paulo bench and appeared to gesture with his hands near his groin.
Play was halted for about 10 minutes, then VAR Rodolpho Toski Marques asked referee Anderson Daronco to review. After around two minutes, the incident was judged interpretative and that Bobadilla did not touch. Citing a cultural element, Daronco issued no card.
After the final whistle, Corinthians complained publicly. Club executive Marcelo Paz also demanded consistency and referenced the Allan and André Luiz dismissals.
Allan was sent off against Fluminense in round 9 by Davi de Oliveira Lacerda for placing a hand on his genitals towards rivals, then received a minimum STJD ban and a club fine. Two rounds later André saw red from Flávio Rodrigues de Souza for a similar act towards Andreas Pereira, with the same punishment under CBJD article 258.
Corinthians now host Barra-SC on Thursday at 19:30 in the Copa do Brasil fifth phase second leg. A 1-0 first-leg win, courtesy of Jesse Lingard, means a draw is enough to reach the last 16.
