Corinthians reach fourth straight Copa do Brasil semi-final in 2025

Corinthians' qualification for the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil this Wednesday, 10, after defeating Athletico-PR at the Neo Química Arena by 2 x 0 in the return match of the dispute, closing the aggregate score at 3 x 0, also yielded the club the consolidation of some important marks for the People's Team, be it in the current season, or in the history of their participation in the Copa do Brasil.

In relation to the national tournament, the achievement is related to Timão's new trip to the semifinals, as this is the fourth consecutive year that this stage is reached by Corinthians in the national cup. In 2022, the campaign ended only in the final, when the team was defeated by Flamengo. In the following years, the team was unable to reach the decision, stopping at São Paulo in 2023 and again at Flamengo in 2024.

Another relevant point about the Corinthian feat is that it will be the 11th Copa do Brasil semifinal contested by the team in history. This is the fourth highest number among all participants in the competition, behind only Flamengo, which reached 17 semifinals, Grêmio, which reached this stage 16 times, and Cruzeiro, which reached the 12th semifinal in the current season – will dispute the spot in the final against Timão, inclusive.

In addition, the good campaign in the Copa do Brasil reinforced Corinthians' excellent performance in knockout matches in 2025. In total, the team played eight knockout matches, including those in a single match format and in home and away format, winning seven – the only elimination happened in February, against Barcelona-EQU, in the 3rd round of the Copa Libertadores qualification phase.

The seven qualifications yielded, in addition to the trip to the national tournament semifinal, also the São Paulo state championship title, after Alvinegro overcame Mirassol, Santos and Palmeiras. In total, Corinthians played 14 knockout matches in the season, achieving an impressive 11 wins, two draws and only one defeat, also scoring 19 goals and conceding only seven. The last of these goals conceded, by the way, occurred more than months ago, on March 9, scored by Santos in the São Paulo state championship semifinal.

The points performance in this part of the season is extremely positive: 83.3%. For comparison, Corinthians played another 40 games in the year, 22 for the Brasileirão (points race) and 18 for the São Paulo state championship and South American (group stages). The performance recorded, however, was much lower: 16 wins, 13 draws and 11 losses, scoring 48 goals and conceding 46. A performance of only 50.8%.
