Corinthians are renegotiating the payment schedule on a debt owed to Memphis Depay after failing to honour a previous agreement.
Gazeta Esportiva reports that the amount increased following the Copa do Brasil triumph and now sits at around R$ 30 million.
The plan arranged last year covered R$ 23 million in signing-on fees and performance bonuses, to be paid monthly from December 2025 to March 2026, but the club did not have the funds.
The finance department is now discussing a fresh structure, different from the 2025 instalment plan. The outstanding sum is the main obstacle to talks over a renewal, with Depay’s contract expiring on 20 June and the forward already able to sign a pre-contract elsewhere.
Corinthians carry about R$ 2.8 billion in debt and face cashflow strain despite 2025 league revenue, Copa do Brasil prize money and a R$ 70 million loan from Liga Forte União.
The funds helped cover day-to-day costs and other commitments, including R$ 41.3 million to midfielder Matías Rojas and R$ 33.4 million to Santos Laguna, which lifted a transfer ban that lasted almost five months. Part of the cup prize was also allocated to bonuses for players and staff.
Since arriving, Depay has played 66 matches, won the Paulistão and Copa do Brasil, scored 19 goals and provided 14 assists.
