Corinthians have sacked head coach Dorival Júnior after a Brasileirão defeat to Internacional in Itaquera. The club said in a statement that Dorival and his staff have been dismissed, and that under-20 boss William Batista will lead Monday’s session at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava.

He was under heavy pressure in his poorest spell at the club. The result left the side winless in nine matches this season, with draws against Portuguesa, Cruzeiro, Santos, Chapecoense and Flamengo, and defeats to Novorizontino, Coritiba and Fluminense.

Corinthians’ last victory came on 19 February, a 1-0 win over Athletico Paranaense in the second round of the national competition.

Dorival arrived in April 2025, replacing the staff led by Ramón Díaz, who had won that season’s Paulistão. His record stands at 25 wins, 19 draws and 19 defeats, a 50% return, with 67 scored and 56 conceded. Assistant Lucas Silvestre took charge three times, recording one win and two defeats.

In nearly a year in charge he lifted two trophies, the 2025 Copa do Brasil against Vasco da Gama and this season’s Supercopa with a 2-0 win over Flamengo, ending a national drought dating back to 2017.

The next head coach will have little time to settle amid a packed April schedule. Corinthians face Platense on Thursday at 21:00 at the Estádio Coliseo de Victoria in the Libertadores group stage opener.
